Bandwidth For the Future of AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications are in the early process of transforming various personal and professional domains with their innovative capabilities and benefits. Some are concerned that the capabilities of AI will threaten their jobs – like Hollywood writers and actors were when they went on strike in late 2023. Others are looking forward to AI enhancing their capabilities on the job and introducing new ways to stay entertained in their personal time.

If the last couple decades of technological growth have taught us anything, it’s to remain agile; ready to adapt, improvise, overcome and thrive.

In terms of business, it seems to be an inevitability that AI will drastically upend existing processes and
ultimately make some redundant. The key to succeeding through the transition will be to understand how AI works, what it can and cannot do, and how to master it as a tool.

For now, most end-user AI applications are run in the cloud. That is to say that computational power
is being outsourced to expensive super-computers operated by the big tech companies in remote locations. Every time you query Bing Copilot, or ChatGPT or any of the myriad emerging AI integrations, the information is transmitted over your internet connection to the cloud, and the results are sent back over your internet connection to your device.

For now, most use cases for AI are text-based, or small images usually limited to 512px x 512px. This is
to limit the demand on cloud servers, and to enable users with slower internet connections to participate. However, major advancements have already been achieved in creating on-demand AI generated audio and video. As the AI models are optimized and new capabilities are introduced, you’ll want to be prepared with a reliable high-speed internet connection.

Imagine a not-too-distant future when you put on a virtual reality headset to join your family and friends, all living in different states or even countries, to watch a movie together. But not any big-budget movie that has been produced – one you describe to your AI entertainment concierge, that is created for you on-demand and streamed in real-time. When this day comes, you’ll be glad you subscribed to have a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
