Nicholas Dyl joined the Aptitude Internet team in January 2024 as an Aerial Lineman shortly after completing an intensive training course at the Southeast Lineman Training Center in Georgia in the fall of 2023. Dyl’s education and training made him the ideal candidate for the quickly growing Aptitude team based out of St. James by bringing the expertise necessary to hit the poles running on day one.

Dyl was born on Fort Leonard Wood Army base outside of Waynesville, Missouri where he lived until moving to Rolla in 2019. He briefly explored a passing interest in sales, before learning about the exciting adventures offered by a career in utility work from a friend.

Keen on living the dream of endless outdoor adventures and dispositionally inclined to hands-on labor, Dyl eagerly left behind the sales hustle for the cool breezes blowing atop the utility lines and the satisfaction of a hard day’s work.

While the task of dropping fiber lines is the overall mission of Dyl and his team, he considers safety for himself and his team members to be the utmost concern. Working around power lines has inherent risks that can be mitigated through proper safety procedures, consistent safety measures and thoughtful work that doesn’t cut corners.

When Dyl isn’t busy hanging line from utility poles, you might catch him hanging line from a fishing pole off the side of his kayak. He’ll take any body of water he can get, but Dyl says he often prefers a river. His river running is a common enough activity for him to be considering an outboard motor for his kayak. That way he won’t be stuck floating upstream when his legs cramp up from a tough day of climbing pole out in the summertime sunshine.

Aside from fishing, Dyl will be broadening his outdoorsman skills this hunting season by trying his hand at archery. He hopes for a successful season that will fill his freezer with venison and pack his dehydrator with jerky to share with friends and coworkers.

Though the great outdoors call to him in primal tones echoing from time immemorial, Dyl dabbles in pastimes of the artistic variety from time to time as well. He had briefly considered living the life of a Fruity Loops composer seeking Soundcloud fame. He also experimented for a time with aerosolized pigment expression, mostly on canvas.
